PAMEKASAN — Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) Madura University berkomitmen memperkuat pelestarian Bahasa Madura melalui penyusunan dan pelaksanaan Uji Kompetensi Berbahasa Madura (UKBM) bagi guru muatan lokal Bahasa Madura di Kabupaten Pamekasan.
The program is planned to be implemented through strategic collaboration between FKIP Madura University and the Pamekasan Regency Education and Culture Office as a concrete step to improve the quality, professionalism and standardization of competency of Madurese language teachers in schools.
Dean of FKIP Madura University, Dr. Moh. Zayyadi explained that UKBM is an important academic instrument for measuring teachers' language skills in a scientific, structured and standardized manner. According to him, strengthening the competency of Madurese language teachers is an important part of maintaining the sustainability of regional languages ??amidst the challenges of development in the digital era.
"The Madurese language is not only a communication tool, but also a cultural identity and a means of character building for the Madurese people. Therefore, the competency of Madurese language teachers must be strengthened through a measurable and academic evaluation system," he said.
He added that the implementation of UKBM will not only measure theoretical aspects of language ability, but also the practical ability to use Madurese in a polite and contextual manner in learning at school.
Madura University FKIP is also preparing a concept for developing UKBM instruments based on local culture, including strengthening the use of language levels such as "Engghi-Bhenten" as part of student character education based on Madurese cultural values.
Apart from that, the program is expected to be an academic solution in supporting the existence of local Madurese language teachers, including non-linear teachers who have been actively teaching in various schools in Pamekasan Regency.
According to Dr. Moh. Zayyadi, collaboration with regional governments is a strategic step so that the Madurese language strengthening program is not just a discourse, but can be implemented sustainably through regional education policies.
"FKIP Madura University is ready to become an academic partner with the regional government in developing education based on local Madurese culture, including strengthening the competency of Madurese language teachers through UKBM," he said.
In the future, FKIP Madura University will also encourage the development of a more comprehensive Madurese language education ecosystem, starting from preparing learning modules, digitizing teaching materials based on local culture, to strengthening institutions through the opening of the Madurese Language Education Study Program.
This step is in line with Madura University FKIP's commitment to strengthening the transformation of education based on local wisdom while supporting the preservation of Madurese language and culture in formal education environments.
